So what’s this all about???

Standard

Why am I starting a blog…really a year ago I would have thought myself the farthest from doing something like this.ย  Lately though, it has become something I am really passionate about starting. What created the change in heart??

Well I HAD A BABY for one!!!

I suppose it all began when I was struck with an ongoing issue with my 10 month old daughter, Blake, and decided to Google it. I didn’t come up with any answers, in fact the discussions and parenting tips I found were for the exact opposite issue I was having. I even looked through some Parent magazines and still came up short. (I will be posting this issue soon, so stay tuned…) I was thinking I really wanted to share my thoughts, problems, and stories about parenting and create a forum where other moms, or even dads, could include their insight and their personal experiences to these matters. Of course there is always facebook ….Well, although I have many friends who are parents themselves, I also know how much the postings of comments about your little one (which us moms love to constantly add) or those bajillions of uploaded cell-phone pics and videos of our babies with some sort of half digested food-like substance all over their face or of their MONUMENTAL breakthrough to finally being able to stick their entire foot in their mouth while pulling out the cat’s hair or nonchalantly flipping off the camera (why do babies always do that!?!) …drive our non-human-making friends totally bonkers.

Perfect example of this is when I facebook posted a question, directed to my other facebook mom friends (although I didn’t directly state it was for them), asking how long I should keep nursing Blake. I was looking for other moms’ inputs and experiences since this is my first baby. I did receive this along with this comment, “Hahah iris oh my goodness! Google it lol.” As you can guess it was made by one of my friends who is not a parent. It wasn’t offensive per say and I wasn’t mad that she said it, but I did feel a little shut down and I started thinking…. Am I not allowed to post about my parenting questions of facebook? Does this bother people? Is nursing such a gross topic that it’s taboo to talk about? (Don’t even get me started on the way many people feel towards nursing mothers…) This one little comment did seem to make a big difference in my future posts. So I started to think it best to separate my parenting rants and raves from my social media posts…. But they best believe I will STILL be posting that next pic of Blake with milk coming out of her nose or of the next microscopic step in my believed milestones. ๐Ÿ™‚

So alas I decided to create this blog.

What about the name?

When trying to think of a cleaver name for my blog I thought of this saying, which in my family stems from the book Meanwhile Back at the Ranch by Trinka Hakes Noble. It was a childhood favorite of mine and one my husband still reads to the kids. “Meanwhile back at the ranch” according to urbandictionary.com means 1 “A quote line to introduce a new topic of conversation, or to end a particularly embarrassing line of talk.”ย  2“An analogy for “to continue” or “as I was saying”, after an unexpected, odd, or irrelevant interruption.” andย  3 “A term meaning two events simultaneously happening in two different locations.”

I think all those definitions fit with my intent.
